THE NIGHT WIFE

CHAPTER FOUR
“You have a housemaid here Abi ?” Annabel her elder sister ask . “We’ll be in the kitchen cooking, big madam will go and chatting with boys online.”Annabel tackled her sister, Dooshima was almost crying .

“Mummy tell Annabel oh! did you see me Chatting with any boy ?” She cried throwing tantrums . “Moreover is it girls that you want me to be chatting with? am I a lesbian ?” She asked her sister .

“Mind your mouth in my kitchen , it’s a holy place !” Mrs Seember warned her daughter. “You cannot say obscene things here.” Her daughters broke into laughter .

“Mummy even the bible spoke about stuffs like that .” Annabel said . The kitchen was so big ,like a sitting room . Brown milkish cabinets covered the walls of the the kitchen , a big glass window , let bright sunlight poured into the room .

The kitchen had two electric cookers and one gas cooker, two Heir Thermacool freezers , a centre table sitting at the middle of the kitchen .

“Mummy is daddy going to finish all this food before Sunday ?” Dooshima wondered . Her father worked in Makurdi, he was a professor and practicing lawyer ,the HOD law department In B.S.U, and also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria , he had his chambers in New GRA Makurdi , he was a counsel to the Benue State government, and also a special adviser to the government on legal matters. He also had branches of the church in Makurdi.

“Your dad is staying for two weeks .” Dooshima frowned her face .
“Why two weeks ?” Dooshima asked . “Makurdi is just at the backyard?” She asked .

“The government has a case in court Abuja , Next Monday dad is the lead counsel, so he would have to stay in Makurdi and travel to Abuja on Sunday after the service.” Most times Dooshima asked herself if she was ready to wear her father’s shoes , she had the brain , but not the strength to be jumping from court to like a gypsy .

“Mummy you know the kitchen is not my place ,can I go and be with daddy ?” She asked , Mrs Seember knew her daughter, she was a nocturnal creature that hated heat and light , she didn’t want to be a mother of a indolent daughter , who wouldn’t know how to take care of her home , and rely solely on maids , because she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth . But leaving Dooshima in the kitchen , meant they would talk till her husband run late .

“You can go now .” She bowed her head to her daughter in a mock obeisance. Dooshima chuckled and left the kitchen , in a second she was back to the kitchen. “Mum my phone ?” She stretched her hand , her mum pushed her phone into her hand . Dooshima zoomed to the sitting room , where her dad was preparing some legal papers.

“Lillian how are you doing baby ?” Pastor Gamadi asked his daughter . Dooshima rolled her eyes in feigned anger .

“Not good dad , mum told me you’ll be away for two whole weeks and you didn’t care to inform me ?” She said , grumpily.
“Oh my mother am sorry , I thought I would tell you before I leave . ” Dooshima shook her head .

“No daddy that’s not the deal , I won’t allow you call me mum again ,if you will be treating me like your small baby , I am not Ephraim, am a grown lady , a lawyer.” The pastor chuckled.

“Who called you to bar ? you’re still a nobody in Nigerian legal circle .” Pastor Gamadi teased his daughter.
“Daddy you know me I’ll get a first class in law school, I can’t wait to clear it .” She boasted .

“pride goes before a fall ,God loves a simple heart , pride goes before a fall.” He told her . “And remember how I used to force you to read you’re lazy , it’s just that God gave you a good head above your shoulders , just learn to put your pride low ,and read hard .” He said and returned to the work on his laptop.

“Dad remember you owe me an Apple laptop for getting a first class?” she reminded her dad .

“Oh I remember, send me a message next week when am in Abuja I will get you a the laptop .” He said ,she pecked his cheek and ran upstairs .

She logged into her Facebook account , she saw almost a thousand messages from Loverboy. She viewed the messages and refused to reply him.
