MY COMFORT ZONE EPISODES 11-20

PRINCESS STORIES

Episode 15

David was on his way to the manager’s office. He was informed through his secretary that he had sent for him.

“Good day Sir.” David said after a polite knock as he walked into the Manager’s office.

“Good day Mr. David, please sit.” The Manger said as he offered him a chair..

“I just went through our statement of account and have come to discover some new development.” The Manager said as David readjusted himself.

“For the past six months there’s been a shortage of finances; it seems like some kind of pen theft has been going on right under my nose and I’m just being aware of it now. Do you have a clue of where this is coming from?” The Manager asked and David was silent for a while. He had known all the workers under him to be not just dedicated but honest people. Who on earth would want engage in such an abominable act, especially in a kind of company where the punishments for these offences are unbearable?

“I have no idea Sir. I am as shocked as you are, but would get to the root of this.” David managed to say.

“Oh please do. I am counting on you, most especially as the head of the accounting department.”

“No problem Sir, I will try my best.”

MY COMFORT ZONE EPISODES 11-20

“Daniel what is the problem? You sounded really urgent on the phone.” Rick said as soon as he walked in his friend’s office.

“Guy there’s fire on the mountain.” Dan said. As serious as Dan tried to sound, Rick paused to chuckle a bit.

“I don’t understand the reason behind your laughter. What is funny in what I just said?”

“Guy look around you, do you see any mountain of any sort? We’re in the city mehn, be realistic for once.” Rick said as Dan slapped his forehead in frustration.

“Why are you so unserious?!”

“Because you’re usually too serious over unserious issues.”

“Listen we’ve been caught.”

“Caught how?”

“Our secret is about to be exposed to the whole world.”

“Daniel we have more than one secret; be a little more specific here.”

“Okay. So recently the manager got to check the account details of the company and discovered……”

“That there has been a shortage finances for some time now, and you called me here because you’re scared of getting caught?”

“Listen I am not scared, we just have to be more careful to have our tracks well covered.”

“You see what I’m saying? You take unserious things too seriously.”

“Rick this matter is more than serious because if we ever get exposed, our jobs would be at risk.”

“Guy relax abeg, relaxxxxxxx. We’re wiser than they’ll ever be so chill out abeg. Steam don full your head already.” Rick said with a wave of hand. Enraged, Dan hit his desk with his fist to show his seriousness.

“Rick we’re about to be exposed, and you think it’s a joke? Our jobs are at risk here!” Dan said

“I understand that but you need to relax ehnn. Calm your nerves so we can calculate well and think on what to do. They say two heads are better than one; it’s two cool heads, not one cool one and a hot one”

“Listen this is the only job I have. I don’t have hope on getting another. I can’t bear to lose my job over this. The sick thing now is that the Manager has given directives to the head of the accounting department to query us all. To worsen the case, that David guy is our head and we’re directly under him.”

“Yeah so?”

“So???” Dan repeated his question in deep surprise.

“I don’t understand. What exactly is the issue here: that we’re at the risk of our jobs or that David your arch enemy is in charge of getting to the root of it?”

“Both.”

“Okay okay. “ Rick said with all seriousness and took his seat.

“About being exposed, I don’t think that’s possible but still we wouldn’t relax. We’d be more intentional about covering our tracks and probably tone down on our lavish lifestyle till all this is over.

As for David hmmm…..honestly I don’t know but let’s trust Baba that he’d do his job as promised. All we need to give him now is time and patience.”

“Look Rick time and patience are the two factors I don’t have presently.”

“So what do you suggest we do then?”

“Let’s take things into our hands and get rid of him ourselves.”

“But Dan you know that’s not possible. You’re not spiritually strong enough to….”

“Assæssinate him.”

“Exactly that’s my…..what?!” Rick exclaimed as his eyes widened in shock.

“What? What is what?”

“What did you just say?”

“Listen I don’t have time to be waiting on an old fool that calls himself a native doctor. He’s too slow for my liking and I desire to get rid of this guy fast.”

‘“No Daniel, I am not in support of this. We do not have to take his life; the goal is for him to lose his job so we can get to a better position in this company.”

“Rick, I. Want. Him. Dead!”

“No! Daniel no! This man in question is someone’s husband and father. I know what it means to lose a husband and father. Life became tough for my mom and I when dad passed on too soon. I wouldn’t want anyone experiencing that kind of suffering for some selfish reasons.”

“Dan keep your personal experience out of this and focus! For God’s sake are you for me or against me?” Dan asked and Rick was quiet for a while.

“At this point, I can’t tell anymore. Your insatiable quest for position isn’t at all cost is about to make me stain my hands with blood. That I cannot do. I’m sorry.” Rick said and stood up to leave.

“Rick!!!” Dan called out as soon as his hand was about to open his office door.

“Walk through that door, and say goodbye to our ten years of friendship.” Dan said and Rick gave a smirk.

“Ten years of friendship or slaveship?” Rick muttered beneath his breath

“What did you just say?” Dan asked.

“You call this thing between us friendship, David? No! It’s more like “slaveship” than friendship. Tell me, how many times have you done anything for me? Just mention one time you’ve gone out of your way to get anything done for me. I’m listening.” Rick aid and for a while Dan was speechless.

“You can’t recall right? Good! But always, always, I’ve been here for you. I remember when your wife fell ill; I was the first person you called. I went the extra mile to make myself available to support you emotionally and financially even when I wasn’t too stable.

But when a similar thing happened to me, when my child landed in the hospital and I needed financial support, what did you do? You started giving excuses upon excuses. You couldn’t even make out time to come see the little girl at the hospital who always knew you to be her favorite uncle. Asides that, you’ve always used me in many ways I’m not gonna start mentioning.

So Daniel I’m not walking out on our friendship because we had no friendship; I’m walking out of many years of slaveship.”

“Damn!” Daniel said as he hit the wall in anger.

“He can go, I don’t need him. I don’t Baba too. I’d get rid of David myself.”
