MY COMFORT ZONE EPISODES 11-20

PRINCESS STORIES

Episode 12

Gift sat alone in her class looking so unhappy. The school was on break so the class was literally empty.

“Gift, what happened?” Favour said walking up to her and noticing her mood.

“Nothing.” She said and tried to clean the tears in her eyes but it was too late. Favor had sighted them from afar already.

“Nothing? How can someone be crying over nothing?” Favour asked and picked up a book Gift had placed in front of her.

“Plans for the Month of June.” She read from the book.

“Is this why you’re crying? You weren’t able to read your Bible and pray throughout last month as you planned to?” She asked as Gift sniffed and nodded.

“I promised to take my relationship with God serious since the month of March. This is July and I haven’t been able to read 5 chapters of the Bible.” Gift said and shed a few more tears.

“Is that why you’re crying, really?”

“Part of it. The fire on our family altar is gradually burning out.”

“By family altar you mean family devotion?”

“ Yes. My parents don’t take our prayer time serious anymore. It’s either they complain they’re tired and just sleep off in the course of prayer, or they forget completely. It’s really discouraging for me.”

“Hmmm… but you know you wouldn’t blame them; they must’ve been really stressed out from the day’s work.” Favour said and remained quiet for a while.

“Well, I have a suggestion I think can help.” She said as Gift turned to look at her expectantly.

“There’s a fellowship that holds in the secondary section of this school. I’m thinking you should join us…it’ll greatly help the spiritual life you’re trying to build.”

“Fellowship? I never knew we had a fellowship in this school. And you never talked to me about it except now. Are you part of them? When did you join?”

“I really haven’t joined per say. I just go there to wait for my elder sister who loves to attend the fellowship. And because I’ve seen the effect it’s been having on her spiritual life, I’m thinking it’d help you a lot too.”

“Hmm…okay but my mommy will not allow. She comes to pick me up everyday.”

“Who says it’s after school? It’s during break time on Wednesdays, you can attend that one. It’s only on Fridays that they meet after school.” Favour said as Gift considered it.

Belinda was working in her office when her door creaked open and someone walked in.

“Mrs. Belinda there’s really something I want to discuss with you.” Mrs. Williams said after they had exchanged pleasantries.

“Okay, I’m listening.” Belinda said and left everything she was doing to listen to her.

“I had a dream….a terrible dream about you. I have forgotten what it was about exactly but the conclusion of it is that you’re about to get into trouble.” Mrs. Williams said. Belinda’s heart skipped a bit at the word ‘trouble’
Mrs. Williams is the only office friend Belinda has that discusses personal issues with her. She’s also a Christian and that makes Belinda respect her so much.

“Trouble? I don’t seem to get you.” Belinda said with rapt attention

“Well, my dear as I’ve said, I’ve totally forgotten but I feel this burden in my heart to let you know. Okay I think I remember part of it now.” Mrs. Williams said as Belinda paid rapt attention.

“In the dream it felt like you were forced into the battlefield but you had nothing on you: No spear or sword, no breastplate. You were just bare, completely bare.” Mrs. Williams said

“Okayyy, I don’t think I get the point exactly. How would I be forced to be engaged in a battle, especially as a woman?” Belinda asked; a question which Mrs. Williams found to be very amusing.

“My dear life itself is a battlefield. Man or woman, we all have battles to fight and problems to tackle. If you ask me, what the dream means is that you’re not prayerful enough to fight and overcome what is coming your way; so it’s like a call to pick up yourself and continue from where you stopped.” Mrs. Williams said as Belinda nodded thoughtfully.

After thanking her for sharing her revelation of her with her, Mrs. Williams left for her office.

After she had left, Belinda went into deep thoughts.
“I’m about to face a battle? What could that possibly mean?”

Two days later, Belinda got home from work to find her husband shivering on bed.

“Baby what is wrong with you?” She asked with great concern as she rushed towards him.

“I don’t know, I don’t feel too good.”

“You’re not running temperature. What could be the problem with you?” Belinda thought aloud when she felt his body but he wasn’t hot.

She thought for a while before placing her hand on his head and whispering a word of prayer for him. Just then she recalled a dream she had not long ago, of seeing her husband being stabbed by someone he was walking with.

“Mrs. Williams this morning said something about me about to face a battle I’m not prepared for. Could this be it?…..” She reasoned within and turned to check her husband who was at the time already asleep.
Slowly, she left his side and knelt down.

“Oh Lord, I need your help at this moment. I submit myself to you and ask that you teach me to pray. Please teach me to balance things up, and help my spiritual life. Help me to be strong enough to intercede for my husband and family.” She said with faith in her heart and there and then decided to set her priorities right.

Later that night, David woke up from his sleep and began to cough. The cough started slowly and then became so serious that it woke his wife up.
“Honey what is it?” Belinda asked, really frightened.

“Oh my God….Blood? Jesus Christ!” She shouted and jumped off the bed. Coming back with a bucket of water, she placed it near her husband’s mouth and just then her husband threw up.

“Jesus! Honey you just vomited pure blood. God! What is wrong with you?” She asked with a shaky voice as different thoughts were now beginning to run through her mind.

“Wa…wa…”David tried to talk but coughed uncontrollably again.

“Water? Is that what you are saying?” She asked as he nodded in response. She rushed down to the kitchen with her torchlight to fetch water from the fridge for her husband.

“God please don’t let any evil befall this man. He’s everything I’ve got at the moment please.” Belinda said in tears as she sat beside her husband who she had rushed to the hospital at sunrise.

“How do I even know what to pray when I don’t understand what is wrong with him?” She thought aloud as she faced her husband on the hospital bed while holding his hand lightly.

“You were given the time…enough time to develop the muscle that you need to fight this battle, but you didn’t take advantage of it. Have you seen it now? The thing is when I remind you to pray or develop your spiritual life, I’m doing so because I’m seeing what is ahead of you and trying to prepare you to conquer the mountain coming your way.

But no matter how much I tried you didn’t listen, instead your job was a ready excuse. Now you have no clue as to how to go about this challenge.”A voice within her said with rebuke.

“Pity me Lord please. Have mercy on me and help me overcome this challenge. Nothing must happen to my husband please Lord, nothing must happen to him.”

Rachel sat in her room after her morning devotion in deep thoughts. The memories of how her week in school went kept flashing through her mind.

“What? You can’t be serious.” She recalled responding when Grace’s elder sister spoke of her preaching in their next meeting.

“Please ma’am, we would really love to hear from you.” She pleaded.

“Hmmm…you know you are very funny abi? Okay who told you now that I know what to say if I agree to preach next week?”

“Ma the Bible says we’re to just open our mouths and God would do the filling up. Just trust the Holy Spirit of God in you and you’d be fine Ma.” Priscilla said but Rachel wasn’t convinced. Instead she assured her she’d think about it and give her reply in the next meeting.

“God, I know you expect me to accept this offer but I am scared; I don’t know what I should be doing when I face the kids to preach. Please help me Lord, help me.” She said and heaved a sigh before continuing with the day’s tasks.

Belinda sat beside her husband in his ward, praying. She had refused to take food or water throughout the day and it was close to evening already.

“God please have mercy on me, have mercy on my husband, don’t let me lose my husband to this strange health challenge.” She kept saying as she paced around the little space in the ward with her Bible in her hands.
Flipping through the pages of her Bible and finding no clue as to what to do concerning this battle in front of her, she sat down and began to shed tears.

“God please help me. I know I’ve wasted my time of preparation for this challenge but I’m clinging onto your mercy and grace this afternoon. Please Lord, help me.” She said and just then her phone rang.

“Hello baby.” She said, trying her best to maintain a steady voice.

“Hello mummy good evening Ma.”

“Evening my love, how are you doing?”

“I’m fine. Mummy when are you coming home? Is daddy getting better?” Little gift asked as her mother sighed

“Baby I’ll be home soon I promise you. Your father will be fine soon.”

“Hmmm…mummy are you sure?”

“Yes dear, Iam sure. Or don’t you trust God anymore.”

“Of course I do.”

“Good! So that settles it. I’ll be back soon okay?”

“Okay Ma.” Gift said and with that their conversation ended.

“God….my daddy is in the hospital, seriously ill. I can’t remember how my mom put it but he’s losing his blood. And we don’t have Grandma Zipporah anymore. How do we fight this battle Lord? Please show us how.” Gift prayed silently with a sincerely heart as she thought about her family.

Just then she recalled the recent conversation she had had with her best friend Favor, where she was inviting her to their school’s fellowship.

“Listen to you friend and attend the fellowship. The answer to your prayer lies there.” She heard an instruction from within her.
