MY COMFORT ZONE : EPISODES 1 – 10
Princess Stories
Episode 9
Mrs. Belinda was extremely busy in her office when her phone rang out loud. She initially ignored the call because what she was presently working on was really urgent and needed her full concentration;
but when the call persisted, she decided to spare a few minutes to check who was calling in the first place.
“Hello Mrs. Daberechi, good day Ma. Ma please can you come to your son’s school like right now? He’s at the school clinic and needs to be transferred to a well-equipped hospital because his condition is quite critical.” A voice said as soon as she answered the call.
“What? Hello? Pleas what did you say happened to my son?” She said in a rush
“Ray had an accident while trying to cross the road this morning and was seriously injured in his knee. At first we thought it was a minor injury, something that can be handled by the school clinic, but from the look of things it’s becoming quite critical as time passes. Please we need your presence here Ma.”
“Jesus Christ! Oh my God.” Belinda said and rushed out of her office in a haste. Having informed her secretary where she was going to and instructed that she cover up for her while she’s away, she entered into her personal vehicle and hit the road.
“You see it? My dream has finally come to pass. Oh God what is this? What kind of challenge is this? All because I decided to get serious with you? This is too much for me to bear Lord, it’s too much” She thought to herself as she waited for the moving to finally clear off.
“First it was sleepless nights due to terrible dreams and nightmares, now it’s my innocent son getting attacked for something he knows absolutely nothing about. And I told David o.
I told him to allow us back out from this decision of mine because we’re not ready for what’s coming at us, but he refused. Now see where it has landed me and my son now. Oh Lord.” She reasoned within. She had a lot of thoughts running through her mind as she drove down to her son’s school.
“Welcome Ma.” The school’s gateman greeted with a warm smile but Belinda was too absent-minded to hear his greetings , not to talk of replying.
“Please I’m here for my son, Ray Daberechi.” She told the receptionist who directed her to Ray’s ward.
“Oh my Lord.” She said emotionally as she sighted her son who laid still on the hospital bed.
“He’ll be well soon Ma. He’s currently asleep because we injected some drugs into his system.” The nurse who had followed her to the ward explained.
“Thank you.” Belinda said and forced a smile before looking back at her child.
“God please, let nothing happen to my son.” She prayed silently before bringing out her phone and quickly sent a text.
“You better find your way down to Ray’s school, he’s receieving treatment at the school clinic.” She read the text before sending it to her husband.
While staring at her child and holding his hand softly, she began to think about her life and family. She shook her head at the fact that she had left all her spiritual duties and responsibilities to someone else for so long.
It was obvious to her now that the spiritual controls the physical, and felt sorry for herself for not having the spiritual capacity to keep bad occurrences from happening to her loved ones.
Her thoughts further drove her back to her campus days in the university where she came across a roommate of hers that always loved to pray. Her name was Abigail. Herself and the rest of the other roomies called her ‘prayer machine’ because she prayed to a fault.
She recalled that when asked why she prayed so much, she’d usually reply that she was building the spiritual capacity that’d be strong enough to help her succeed in life and be all God wants her to be. They didn’t understand what she meant then so they usually waved it off and continued with their lives
“The spiritual controls the physical. Those who focus on building spiritual capacity early in life seem to have an edge over those who don’t.
In just few months of Ma Zipporah’s death, I lost my job, Dave got demoted and I had a dream that has landed my son in the hospital because of our lack of knowledge on how to go about it.
Truly we have faed calamities as a result of lack of knowledge.” She reasoned within as the favorite scripture of their head pastor rang in her heart.
“The Bible says ‘My people perish for lack of knowledge’ so my brothers and sisters, do what it takes to gain knowledge. Strive to escape from the deadly pit of ignorance.” She recalled him saying almost all the time, at any opportunity he gets.
“But how did we get here? How did we manage to be so unbothered about building our spiritual capacity, seeing my husband and I both came from Christain omes?” She asked herself and tried to search for answers within her until she got interrupted with someone’s footsteps approaching her.
“My God! Is he okay?” David said as he rushed to his son’s side.
“This is what I was scared of David, this is exactly what I was scared of ehn. Now look at it now- our son is injured at the same right leg he wounded in my dreams. Babe we’re not capable of what is coming our way if we keep trying to build our spiritual lives we shoulkd’ve built a long time ago. It’s best we just forget about it and….”
“And live at the mercy of circumstances?” He asked and Belinda remained silent for a while before she spoke up.
“We’re trying to build spiritual capacity…to have a cordial relationship with God and get to the point where we’re in right standing with him, right?” She asked as he nodded in agreement
“Exactly. This is something we shoudlve worked on a very long time ago before even getting married not to talk of having kids. I remember a roommate of mine back then in school who was all prayerful and church. The last time I asked about her, she’s doing well….so well that I sometimes find myself envying her.”
“You’re deviating already, what is your point?”
“My point is, it is during our single season that we should’ve done what we’re trying to do now with God. It is then we should’ve worked towards attaining the level of intimacy we’re trying to get with God. Now we’re married with kids. We’re busy with responsibilities and with life. Don’t you think it’s too late already?”
“Too late? No, I don’t think so. Honey I understand you’re scared and looking for an excuse to quit, but I’m not going to let you do that. I saw how much you wanted to build a solid relationship with God when Ma Zipporah died.
Now there are obstacles on the way you want to opt out but that’s not going to happen. Remember we’re in this together, and we’d scale through no matter what the enemy brings our way.” David said and Belinda was quiet for a while.
She recalled how zealous she was in wanting to build a relationship with God, but she doesn’t think she is willing to do that at the expense of her sleep or her son’s life.
A few days later, Ray got discharged and stayed home for a week before resuming back to his school hostel.
All thanks to David, the Daberechis continued with their 15mins midnight prayers and it got better by the day. Belinda has been able to conquer her fears of being attacked as a result of an attempt to build her prayer life when she came across the parable of the sower in Matt 13 one of the days she opened her Bible to read in her car before driving home.
As she attempted to meditate on the passage, it hit her that she was in the category of those who received the word of God on a stony place, and later opted out because of persecutions and tribulations.
When she got to understand that her fears were an attempt by the enemy to see that she doesn’t go further with her spiritual goals, she worked towards letting go of her fears by reading her Bible more often and listening to downloaded gospel messages on her phone.
As she read her Bible and listened to carefully selected gospel messages, her zeal and hunger to know God more slowly returned and with her family’s consistency in building their family altart via theor midnight prayers, the nightmares stopped.
David hadn’t realized this until she called her attention to it.
“Babe have you noticed I’ve been sleeping peacefully these days and haven’t been disturbing you late in the night like before?” Belinda said while busy with her hands in the kitchen.
“Yes I noticed that not too long ago. Have the nightmares stopped?” David asked and she flashed a smile at him.
“Well, what do you think?” She asked and he got the meaage.
“Oh thank God! You scaled through that obstacle without giving up. I’m proud of you girl.” He said excitedly
“Well, yes. All thanks to you, the expectation the enemy had in mind when he decided to torment my dreams didn’t happen.”
“Yes, thank God. But how did you overcome it? What’s the secret?”
“I can’t say, really. The only thing I can recall is me being alone in my office and pouring out my heart to God that I’m tired of the nightmares, and that if he really wants me to fellowship with Him as much as I want to, He should please help me to overcome this battle of sleepless nights as a result of nightmares. That’s all I remember doing in particular.”
“Hmmm….and God answered your prayers just like that? Wow.”
“Yes…..and oh I remember. There’s this colleague of mine that’s church and God-fearing. She came to my office based on official matters but one thing led to anither and we started talking about personal issues.
While discussing, she mentioned how her spiritual life skyrocketed to the next level ever since she started listening to gospel messages on her phone and how that has moved her closer to her spiritual goal.
I took note of that immediately and began playing some messages I’d download in my car. One day while I was listening to a message on spiritual growth, the preacher mentioned that we must seek the Lord with all our heart if we really want to go.
That it is when God sees our sincerity in seeking Him that He sends help our way and worshiping and praying begins to get easier as we practice it more often.”” She said and paused to get the dishes to serve the food she had cooked.
“On my way home that day, I was ruminating over the message I had just listened to and examined myself to see if I was actually seeking Him with all my heart. I prayed a short prayer and asked God to help me seek Him with all my heart so I could find Him.”
“Hmmm….okay. And?”
“And then I was about heading home after I was done for the day when something inside of me suggested I spare 15mins to read my Bible in the office before heading to my car for home. I thought of it and it was a good idea. So for a month now I’ve been taking out 15mins to read my Bible before heading home.”
“Oh wow. Interesting. I think I’d try that too.” David said and Belinda smiled.
“Sometimes when the reading is getting interesting and it’s as if someone is explain the passage to me, I take extra 5mins to finish the passage up.”
“Hmmm…no wonder! You seem to be reading your Bible more these days. I notice you usually take at least ten minutes to read your Bible before and mutter silent prayers before sleeping. I’m guessing that was how the bad dreams stopped.” David said as Belinda nodded in agreement
“The prayers I mutter are usually from the Bible passage I read while in the office, plus prayers for the nightmare to stop. I’m just happy my little faith that seemed so insignificant was strong enough to birth desired answers to my silent prayers.”</p>
“Wow. That is beautiful. I’ll start my own Bible reading after office hours too.”
MY COMFORT ZONE : EPISODES 1 – 10
David went to a party with a friend of his. As soon as the celebration was over, he headed home with his friend. They hadn’t reached a far distance when his friend suggested they follow a certain path to which he agreed.
As the path got lonelier, David noticed a dagger in the fellow’s right hand that he placed at his back. Before David could make mention of it, he got stabbed thrice and was in the pool of his own blood.

Okay so there you have it. Episode 9 done and dusted.
Please I want to make mention of something at this point. Did you notice Belinda didn’t have enough time to study and pray at home because she’s a busy woman? Being a mom, wife and having a 9-5 job isn’t beans, right? Yet her determination to know God is pushed her towards creating time out of no time to fellowship with her father and build the kind of relationship she desires to have with Him right in her office and car.
I’ve literally received messages concerning this issue……wanting to build a better or more stable prayer or Word life but there seems to be no time or knowledge on how to go about it.
Listen the solid truth is this- you create time for what is really important to you.
If you don’t have time at home to pray, squeeze at least ten minutes to do so when you’re done with the day’s job before heading home.
If you seem not to have time to read your Bible because you get so busy at home (which is 100% understandable), please find time to do so while you’re outside the home.
You could get to work 10-15mins earlier and use ten minutes to pray in your car before going into the office building to sign in.
If you don’t know what to do about a problem that’s bothering you and affecting your family negatively, biko listen to messages by anointed men of God and pray the prayers they call at the end of the messages.
Listen these days there’s no excuse to being spiritually dull or have stunted growth with your father. There are opportunities everywhere to grow your spiritual life, be sensitive enough to identify and maximize them.
Above all, trust the Holy Spirit to guide you as you take baby steps to knowing God more.
I pray God helps you, and that you’ll get to the height of intimacy you want to be with God. Amen
