Does ALDI Accept EBT?

ALDI grocery stores accept EBT cards as a payment method in all its locations. The store is among the biggest grocery stores in America today, with over 2000 grocery stores in a total of 36 states. Beneficiaries of the SNAP can use their EBT cards to purchase SNAP-eligible grocery items in every Aldi grocery store. 

It is stated on the company’s website that EBT cards are an acceptable mode of payment in all its locations for both in-store and online purchases (curbside pickup and doorstep delivery).

Can I use EBT Cards to Order Online from ALDI?

ALDI was the first grocery store to accept EBT as a payment method for online purchases. In 2017 ALDI grocery stores partnered with Instacart to enable the use of EBT cards for online shopping (curbside pickup and same-day delivery service). To order online from Aldi with an EBT card you must be registered with Instacart. 

On your Instacart profile choose EBT as your payment method and input your card details to link your EBT card with your Instacart profile. Bear in mind that SNAP benefits do not cover delivery fees, tips, and any other additional charges that might be incurred on the purchase. Your EBT card can only be used to pay for SNAP-eligible grocery items.

Items that You Cannot Buy with EBT at an ALDI Grocery Store

Alcoholic beverages such as; beer, wine, and liquor, cigarettes, tobacco products. Vitamins, drugs, food supplements, freshly cooked meals, live animals except for shellfish, and fishes removed from the water.

Also, freshly slaughtered animals cannot be bought with an EBT card at ALDI. In addition, home supplies like cleaning supplies, toiletries, cosmetics, and other home essentials cannot be bought with an EBT card.

What can I Buy from an ALDI Grocery Store with an EBT Card?

SNAP benefits are paid at the start of every month through the electronic benefits transfer account of beneficiary families. The items that can be bought with the EBT cards are limited to only items of nutritional value. Some of the items that can be bought with an EBT card at Aldi grocery stores include:

Snacks and beverages, bread, seed, and other plants that can be cultivated to produce food for the family, whole grains and pasta, cereals, meat, fish and poultry products, and nonalcoholic beverage.

How to use EBT cards for Grocery Shopping at an ALDI Grocery Store.

When shopping in person at an ALDI grocery store, shop, as usual, and don’t forget to look out for SNAP-eligible items. At the checkout point swipe, your EBT card like you would any other card for payment. Any item, not SNAP-eligible will have to be paid for with a different payment method.

For online shopping on Instacart add your EBT card to your Instacart profile and choose it as the payment method when checking out items on your cart. Input your delivery address, confirm orders and authorize the payment. The cost for delivery, tips paid to shoppers, and every other additional are to be paid for with a different payment card, as SNAP benefits only cover the cost of eligible grocery items.

Other Methods of Payments at ALDI Grocery Stores

Aldi grocery stores accept different methods of payment including, cash payment, cashless payment, contactless payment, gift cards, and food stamps:

1. Cash payment

Cash payment is an accepted method for all in-store purchases in all Aldi locations in the United States

2. Cashless payment

These include Visa cards, Mastercards, Debit and Credit cards, American Express, Link cards, etc.

3. Contactless payment method 

This method of payment does not require any form of contact between the shoppers and the cashier. To make a payment all you have to do is bring your device or chips close to the card reader to initiate payment. Some accepted contactless payment methods at Aldi grocery stores are Apple pay and Google pay.
