Onyabehi lost interest in her child, she lost appetite, for three days she remained locked up in her room, her mother had to yell at her to feed her son.

“What’s wrong with you? if you don’t tell me you mother who will you tell? see your son is so hungry, and light.” Ajuma said.

“Mama leave me alone.” Onyabehi said, remaining on the bed as Igoche suckled .

“You’ll come and start going to your husband’s house. if you cannot talk to me, even if anything is wrong who will you tell if you don’t tell your mother?

You are so lucky to marry a doctor who is taking care of you, you’re enjoying and still sulking.” Onyabehi plucked her boobs away from Igoche’s mouth. The boy opened his big mouth to cry.

“Mama you said what? As much as I blame myself for allowing him to force me like a slave, as much as I blame myself for not running to Abuja to meet Obekpa mama I blame you. What kind of mother are you? you’re just his slave like myself.

Your daughter was being married off to a man you don’t know, who I don’t know, I was taken away from you in the night, like a pig, you didn’t say anything. Who told you that I’m enjoying? ” She said her mother couldn’t look at her face.

“I’ve been with Obekpa from secondary school mama, he came here with his family brought wine for introduction, they collected the list for the traditional right, you allowed papa take me away and gave me to his friends son!

“His father has turned him into a slave! He’s the only one working on his farm. Obekpa is getting married! Do you know that? ” Onyabehi asked Ajuma. “I hate my father I’ll never forgive him in this life… ” she swore.

“Don’t say that Comfort he’s your father.” Ajuma begged.

“He’s not my father. He’s the man who got you pregnant, how has he been there for as a father? I farmed to go through secondary school, my so called father spends his money in bars, drinking and gathering debts. I heard I was bought with two million naira. mama what did papa do with that money?

I never married him. ” She said crying, Ajuma’s lips were dry she couldn’t say a word. Oji had told her that the doctor was coming to do the official traditional right, he had collected money and never mentioned it to her.

On the third day Blessing paid Onyabehi a visit, she had refused to take her calls, or visit her at home, when she wasn’t busy with chores and her mother’s business she went to see her. Onyabehi was inside her dark room, she collected Igoche from Glory, she knocked at the door of her room, she didn’t make any attempt to reply.

“What are you doing to yourself Onyabehi? you should have moved on already.” She said, Onyabehi didn’t cough or sigh, she played dead staring at her friend blankly.

“leave me alone Blessing I don’t want to talk.” Onyabehi said.
“I actually ran into him in the market, he wants to see you.” Blessing said to Onyabehi.
“Ran into who? ” She asked.

“Into Obekpa, I will say you should go and see him.” Blessing adviced.

“Well go and see him for what? what’s the need? I am with the doctor and He’s getting married to no one else but my rival, he did that to spite me.

They’re other girls in this village why Onyale, he wants me to be shamed and disgraced.” Onyabehi mumbled, Igoche climbed down from Blessing’s leg and crawled out of the room to his young uncle and aunties playing and shouting outside .

“He didn’t do that oh, I think Onyale got him into bed, after you had suddenly left him, he was heart broken, she got pregnant for him, but she lost the child at six months, he just decided to marry her.

He was so heart broken when he was told what your father did.” Blessing continued to explain.
“You should go and see him and explain to him what really happened.”

Onyabehi was quiet she didn’t know if she could face him, she had promised never to say yes to anyone. He was the only man she knew before her dad kidnapped and sold her. Blessing’s phone rang .

“Hello Obekpa are you at the spot? ” she asked.
“Yes I am here, did she agree to come and see me? ” He asked.

“Yeah she’s taking her bath. We’ll be there soon.” She said. They were ready and went to the spot his red Toyota Corolla was parked. Obekpa got out of the car, he looked at Onyabehi, she couldn’t look at him in the face.

She bent her head and began to cry . “I am sorry Obekpa.” She said staring at her hand . “I am sorry I broke my promise, am sorry I broke your heart .

” She cried. Obekpa wanted to embrace her and tell her everything was alright. But he couldn’t do it , she was somebody’s wife, he couldn’t touch her.

“I will excuse you two to talk.” Blessing said as she stepped away. They both looked at her simultaneously, then turned their faces away.

“Can we talk in the car? ” Obekpa asked, Onyabehi nodded, she couldn’t stop crying . “How are you doing Onyabehi I heard you’ve a son now! ” He asked, Onyabehi’s face remained on the dashboard of the car, tears rolling down her cheeks, she couldn’t say anything.

Owoiche Ada was dressed in a black suit, a white shirt , his black lawyer’s robe and his milk coloured wig. He had his brother in the defense council.

Agada had called to his son for help. The young men had told him they had cases to attend at Gamadi Chambers. Since their principal wasn’t in the country to take on some of his cases.

“I know Ada was never a good mother to the both of you. But please remember your siblings Victor and Victory, we know she was mean, but she is no thief, that money is much she could go to prison for a long time.

” Agada begged his sons. “I know you guys are very good at what you do, you’ve learnt well from professor Gamadi. The Bible said don’t pay evil for evil, pay evil with good.” When he dropped the phone.

“Gabriel we just have to help dad and our siblings, that woman doesn’t deserve compassion.” Owoiche said.

“I swear to God if not for your begging I’ll leave the beast to rot in jail such a wicked woman.” He said.

The brothers had studied the case of fraud against Ada, it was the third sitting on the case. Ada was led into the High Court Jabi , she was on remand custody in Kuje prison.

The mumbling in the court room, by lawyers and their clients with newsmen ceased immediately the judge stepped into the room.

“Court rise! ” The clerk called, as the judge took her sit.
“The first case this today August twenty nine two thousand and fourteen is the case of theft and fraud brought by the plaintiff Accord Bank against the defendants Ada Ameh

Agada, Victor Nsuu, Solomon Tserve, Agnes Luka. Of the sum of one hundred and eight million naira of staff money that was fraudulently removed from the bank.” The judge spent a few minutes that felt like an eternity studying the case files.

“From the evidence before me, and after studying the case of the plaintiff and defendants, I’ve found Ada Ameh Agada… ” Ada was almost collapsing where she stood. “Not guilty. ” She fell on her knees and began to cry.

“The second defendant Victor Nsuu , not guilty , Agnes Luka also not guilty. But Victor Nsuu you had been responsible for sharing of customers details to fraudsters, from the evidence here, you had a transfer of forty million naira into your account during this period.

One the twenty two counts on theft and money laundering I hereby sentence you to fifteen years in prison.” she said Victor sat like a rock unmoved and unfazed.

Ada embraced her step sons , weeping like a baby, he had spent six months of her life in the prison. She had enough time to think about all her evil.
