What Aisle Is Flaxseed Located In Grocery Stores?

If you know what aisles to check, shopping for flaxseed at grocery stores would be a breeze. There are a couple of aisles where flaxseed could be located, we’d share them below. So when next you stop at the grocery store on the hunt for flaxseed, be sure to check these aisles first.

1. Baking Aisle

Flaxseed is a common ingredient used in many homemade baking recipes, so it is often stocked in this section. You will find it shelved alongside other baking supplies, like organic flour.

2. Organic Aisle

If your grocery store has an organic section, flaxseed could be stocked there as well. You will find it among other natural products, like organic oils and vitamins.

3. Spice Aisle

Some grocery stores also stock flaxseed in spice jars, much like cinnamon and Oregon.

4. Refrigerated Section

Flaxseed oil works best when chilled, so if that’s what you need, it is often found in the refrigerated area.

5. Bulk Area

If your grocery store has a bulk/specialty area, flaxseed could also be stocked there. It is often found among other natural nuts, and you can go there to scoop up portions in customizable quantities.

Types of Flaxseed

Flaxseed in grocery stores is often found in one or more of these three forms: Whole, Ground, or Oil. Depending on the recipe you are preparing, you might prefer one form over another, but they each provide unique benefits.

Whole Flaxseed

Whole flaxseeds are often sold in grocery stores. They can be eaten in their original state, without having to grind them. If you want to get a dash of the natural nutty/earthy taste of flaxseed, you might want to go for this type. It is delicious, and you get to enjoy all the benefits unprocessed.

Ground Flaxseed

This is also often referred to as Milled Flaxseed or Flaxseed Meal. Ground flaxseed is obtained when the whole seeds have been ground to a fine substance. It is a common form found in most grocery stores. If you prefer to inculcate flaxseed into cooked meals, this is the type for you. Most persons prefer this form because it’s easiest for the body to absorb fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Flaxseed Oil

Just like other cooking oils, such as olive oil and vegetable oil, flaxseed oil can be used to cook vegetables and season a wide variety of dishes. However, this form is highly perishable. Once opened, it should be kept refrigerated or in a cool, dark place so it doesn’t spoil.
