CHAPTER 26

“Are you not supposed to be working? what are you doing here? ” Dooshima asked, she wiped off the tears in her eyes. Her eyes were red and swollen.

“I was going on an errand when I ran into your mum at the waiting room, she looked so distressed , she was the one who told me you were here. ” They were both silent for a over a minute. “Why did you not tell me about your health?

” Mimidoo asked, Dooshima had refused to speak to anyone about her symptoms, she just wanted to move to Abuja, if ur was really pregnancy, she would take care of herself with the money she had in her account. When the symptoms continued after her menstrual flow, she had to stay away from Ogwuche. She was encased in depression.

“Mimidoo I think am pregnant, I got pregnancy test kit but I couldn’t use it, I checked my symptoms on Google,they’re all pregnancy symptoms.

” She paused to wipe mucus from her nose .”, I don’t know how I am going to face my parents. Knowing that my mother warned me.” Dooshima cried into her best friend shoulder.

“Dooshima don’t cry it’s not the end of the world, even if you’re pregnant it’s not the end of your life, you’ll rise again.” Mimidoo consoled her, her arm wrapped around her neck.

“Well it would be the end of me Mimidoo! ” Dooshima burst into another round of cry. “My dad would withdraw me from law school, he would disown me. ”

“Daddy won’t do that, you’re his child he would forgive you.” Mimidoo said.

“My dad will be heart broken. He warned me not to get myself messed up, I’ve destroyed his reputation. ” She said weeping. “Oh God come and help me. ” The creaking sound of the door being opened made them paused their conversation. It was the doctor.

“Nurse Mimi how are you? ” He asked gently.

“Good morning doctor I am fine sir.” Doctor Akase was in the ushering department in the church, he knew how Dooshima and Mimidoo had been best of friends from childhood,he wasn’t surprised to see her in Dooshima’s room.

“Please help me call Mummy. ” He said to Mimidoo, she left the room to call Mrs Seember from the waiting room. “Dooshima I just want to tell you that it’s not the end of your life. When we fall down, we don’t stay down we always rise up.

” Dooshima broke into another round of crying, she comprehended the doctors message . Her mum came in to meet her sitting propped against the headboard. The door was calmly thrown open , She couldn’t look at her mother’s face.

“Mummy the test result is out. ” He handed it over to Mrs Seember,she scanned through the results she collapsed into an empty chair in the room.

“Dooshima why? ” she said as hot tears spill down from her eyes. Mimidoo left the room heart boiling in anger. She went to SOPD were Ogwuche worked, she couldn’t him, she walked to light skin nurse who was dressed in a sky blue scrub .
“Good morning Shania,Please I’m looking for Doctor Ogwuche? ” She asked. “I can’t find him in the ward.”

“I think he went with Dr Awase to the male ward, for afternoon rounds. ” The nurse said, Mimidoo thanked her and turned towards the male ward, she was moving at rocket speed, at an bend where two corridors met She almost ran into Ogwuche and Dr Awase.

“You rapist hope you’re happy now that you’ve destroyed Dooshima’s life? ” Mimidoo yelled at Ogwuche. “God will punish you! you knew that she wasn’t that kind of girl! but you raped her! she’s two months pregnant for you congratulations! ” Mimidoo yelled, so loud that people around the corridor turned to them.

“Nurse Mimidoo what has come over you? ” Dr Awase said. “If you have no regard for Dr Ogwuche am I your mate? what kind of nonsense and unprofessional embarrassment is this? Is this the best way… ” Mimidoo turned and left the teacher and Ogwuche.

“Ma that’s not how it happened. I will explain everything. ” He said . And then ran away after Mimidoo, he held her arm.

“Please where is Dooshima? ” he asked pleadingly, Mimidoo yanked her hands off his grasp.

“Don’t you ever lay your filthy hands on me Ogwuche! You saw that she was drunk and you slept with her!” She berated him.

“For the love of God what kind of stupid doctor are you? that doesn’t know about contraceptives that would have prevented all this? God will ruin your career as you ruined hers.” She was locked in a hateful stare at Ogwuche, when nurse Shania tapped her.

“The matron wants to see you in her office now. ” Mimidoo stood her ground, Shania had to drag her away. She went into the matrons office.

“Mimidoo what did I hear that you did? what has come over you? ” She asked , Mimidoo couldn’t look at her, she folded her hands behind her hips as she continuously stared at her white shoes.

She knew she had let her anger have the best of her. “Right now go and apologize to Dr Awase good riddance! what nonsense.” Mimidoo apologized to her boss and left to the Doctor’s office.

Ogwuche was roaming from corridor to corridor looking for Dooshima, he had given her a little space, when he couldn’t understand the kind of her mood swings, he had asked for time to be on her own.

He saw her and her mother walking towards the car park, Her arms were folded over her chest, as if the sun was causing her cold. She was walking slowly behind her mother, her head bent in shame.

“Dooshima? Dooshima? ” He called running up to her Dooshima, Mrs Seember turned and stood between her daughter and Ogwuche.

. “What else do you want from her? ” She growled. “I’d begged you to let my baby be! You refused, hope you’re happy now that you’ve ruined her life with an unwanted pregnancy? when she’s supposed to resume school? ” She said.

“I am sorry ma it was a mistake… ” Mrs Seember raised her hands to his face , signaling him to be quiet.

“I want you to stay far away from my daughter! if I ever see you near her! I’ll make sure you’re sacked and won’t get a job with a government hospital again! Dooshima get into the car. ”

Hemen her driver had come with Lexus SUV. Ogwuche stood there legs planted on the concrete floor of the hospital garage. Hemen put the black SUV in reverse and drove the Gamadi’s out of the parking lot.
