CHAPTER 24

“My daughter got admission to your school, I want you to withdraw her admission, she’ll no longer be able to continue school this year. ” He said calmly not minding the hot tears streaming from Dooshima’s face.

“Why my learned colleague? is it not our dream to have our children take after us? ” The professor asked. Seember had gone white in shock, she felt her husband was blowing everything out of proportion.

“Darling why are you…” Seember tried to correct her husband , he raised his finger to his lips to quiet her.

“Thank you professor I’ll send you her credentials. ” He said before he hung the call. “Seember what was that about? How dare you try to interrupt my phone call? ” He said.

Dooshima fell on her kneels. “Please daddy don’t do that to me, I made a mistake it was only once, I was drunk. ” She begged crying .

“Dooshima you’ll go up into your room and pack everything that belongs to you, you’ll leave my house now! You have lost the privilege to call me daddy! I don’t want to ever see your face. It’s already on the blogs Pastor Sam Gamadi’s daughter pregnant out of wedlock.

I didn’t bring shame to my parents, but you have rubbed ashes on my head. I’ll throw you to the street.” Dooshima grabbed her dad’s leg she began to tremble, she couldn’t imagine life without her parents. Her lips were trembling, her eyes couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

“Mummy please beg daddy for me. I can’t survive out there, who can I go to? I promise you daddy I had sex just once, I was drunk! please daddy forgive me.” Dooshima wailed, her dad peeled her hands off his body, he called the two drivers at the house to follow him upstairs.

“Get everyone of things, move them out of this place! ” he growled. “Since she doesn’t have sense she’ll get sense from the street! ” Seember ran upstairs and grabbed her husband’s arms.

“What? ” he asked angrily.

“Please darling you cannot be rash with hour decision , who do you want her to go to? ” She asked almost crying.

“She should have thought about that, before she opened her leg, I am throwing her to the world to understand life, with all her uncountable flaws I’ve loved her still, I loved that girl above all her siblings! This is how she would repay me? ” He said with a stone face.

“Gamadi she’s our baby, our Lillian we are all she has, please don’t make a bad situation worst? ” She begged but the pastor had gone deaf on his wife, she dragged the last of her luggage out of the house , to the front of the gate house, as his wife ran after him begging him to pardon Dooshima.

“Now get out of my house! from this day you seize to be my daughter! I am cutting you off from my will! if you want to dishonor I’ll first dishonor you. ” he said Dooshima got up from the ground and began to trudge out of the compound, the police men at the gate felt so sorry for her. But they was little to nothing they could do. Professor Gamadi was a big man, they loved their jobs they couldn’t approach him.

Dooshima abandoned her suitcases that were dumped outside the gate, she continued walking on the roadside, around six P. M as the sun had began to set, the evening sky was becoming dark, a heavy cloud was forming.

It became windy, people’s umbrellas with which they sold small chops and fried fishes by road side, develop wings and began to fly into the air, people were rushing out to get their wares off the lines so it won’t get taken by the strong arms of the wind, Dooshima continued walking as though she was invincible, as if water could flow through here.

The rained fell heavily, the tarred road had been deserted, people who had not gotten to their homes branched into nearby houses to avoid being drenched by the rain.

Dooshima didn’t know it was raining, she didn’t know where she would go to she just continued walking around aimlessly, she was drenched in the rain, her clothes cling to her body, her tears were invincible because the rain washed it away.

She heard the horn of a car blaring behind her, she continued walking , the beams of the car light remained on her, she wasn’t where she was, her mind had traveled far away.

The car stopped under the rain. Ogwuche jumped out of the SUV he held Dooshima hand who didn’t resist. Inside the car she began to shiver, and her teeth quiver.

“What are you doing under the rain? ” He asked almost crying. Dooshima couldn’t say a word she kept shaking and shivering the cold had aggravated the malaria she was treating. She felt like she would die the next minute.

“Dooshima what are you doing outside the house under the rain? ” He asked again, Dooshima wanted to talk but her tears couldn’t let her speak.

“My-my dad-dy.” She broke into tears. “My daddy kicked me out of the house! ” Ogwuche put his arms on her neck, she was burning hot, despite the fact that she had been under the rain for an hour.

He drove to Four Angels Guest House, where he booked a room for Dooshima. “Am sorry baby, this is all my fault. I promise you tomorrow I’m going to make this right.

” He said as Dooshima cried on his shoulders, her eyes hot her, the hot tears burned her skin. He made her have a hot water bath, while he went to the kitchen to ask for a plate of cat fish pepper soup and white rice. He had to feed her, her throat was sore from long starvation. Dooshima couldn’t stop the rain dropping from her eyes.
