CHAPTER 30

“No don’t bring him to my house, don’t worry I’ll come and meet you at the hospital, I’ll drive out now.” Annabel said and hung up. Dooshima and Ogwuche had just walked out of the hospital when they saw a big grey Toyota Corolla driving into the compound.

It was Annabel, heavily pregnant she parked her car, close to the car way the security guard tried to make her move the car she bolted out of the car, walking furiously towards Dooshima and Ogwuche.

“Madam come and remove the car from where you parked , it’s blocking the road. ” Annabel walked up to Ogwuche stared him in the eyes.

“What else do you want!” She yelled at him. “You have destroyed my family! got my sister pregnant! put my father in the hospital! why are you here Mr man! ” She screamed white droplets of saliva landed on Ogwuche. Be didn’t know what to say.

You did not just get my sister pregnant you got bee out of school! what did you lie to yourself that you’re doing here today? ” She asked almost grabbing Ogwuche’s shirt. Dooshima stepped in.

“Stop it! stop Annabel. if you want to blame anyone, blame me! I was the one who took myself there! I am the reason dad is in the hospital blame me don’t blame him. ”

Dooshima yelled back at her sister. The security man who had come to call back Annabel was astounded, he stood in silence mopping at the fracas.

“Yeah I blame you. You were the favourite child! The angel of the house, the one who did no evil in daddy’s eyes, his precious one who is so God fearing.”

Annabel mocked her sister. “Who is now pregnant out of wedlock? who landed daddy in the ICU, me the bad egg or you the good egg? ” She yelled at her younger sister who broke down into tears.

“I am married to the governors sun! For what you did to dad, you’ll surely pay! you and that imposter! ” she hissd before she entered her car and made a sharp reverse before speeding out of the hospital premises.

Agada had invited Ogwuche to his house for a meeting, he had met with the church elders they advised that Dooshima and Ogwuche should get married before the pregnancy become well pronounced.

“I called your father, he agreed that we should come along with Lilliann so the family at Ochodo can get to meet her, before we proceed to commence the marriage right. ” Ogwuche and Dooshima watched the elderly man speak.

“We need leave for Ohimini early tomorrow morning, so we can return back to Gboko before night.” He said Dooshima and Ogwuche thanked him.Mr Agada returned the key to the SUV he had seized from Ogwuche back to him.

“Thank you sir, we are so grateful.” The couple thanked Mr Agada before they left the house. Dooshima was fast asleep, her head lay on Ogwuche’s neck, he couldn’t see a single sleep that night. He wondered how he was going to convince his father to let him be with who his heart wanted.

He could remember the last time he had spoken with his father, that was over eight months earlier.

“Ogwuche you’ve finished from school why don’t you come back to Idoma land, I can get you a job with Ogado hospital, or find you a job in Otukpo general hospital. I’ve connection there.” His father had said to him, when he was about to finish his internship in Abuja. Ogwuche disliked the idea of coming close to his father.

Apart from the several children he had outside, he was a known troublemaker, he couldn’t thrive in a toxic area. His mother had no mouth of her own. When he remembered how she kept shut when he beats him till he faints, he wanted to stay away from them for life, he felt so sad that it was impossible.

The next morning, Dooshima was dressed in a white lace pencil gown, with a pair of fancy hills Ogwuche had gotten for her, he was dressed in a white senator native.

He drove with Dooshima to his uncle’s house, his father’s cousin James was taking breakfast with his uncle’s family. He and Dooshima greeted them and took their seat at the sitting room.

“Lillian come and join us eat. ” Uncle Agada beckoned on her, she smiled and shook her head.

“Thank you sir, we’ve eaten at home we’re not too hungry. ” Dooshima said. In the actual sense they had not eaten anything that Saturday morning, Dooshima couldn’t understand the weight on her chest.

She wondered about what Ogwuche’s family would say about her, she was lost in her own world. She thought about her father’s health, she had spoken to mother, who told her that her dad wasn’t improving.

He was stationary, not able to move, he had to be fed and cleaned up. Dooshima had cried so much, she also informed her mom of the move to go and know Ogwuche’s people, her mom prayed for her that everything would go well.

The journey lasted for six hours . The entourage entered Ohimini at about one P.M. Ogwuche was so happy to see his mother, His younger sisters Mary and Ada were came from their husband’s houses to greet Ogwuche . it had been over three years since he stepped his feet on the compound.

“My son so you’re now a medical doctor? ” Ene asked her son, he chuckled. “I can’t believe my eyes, now everybody in the village is calling me Mama doctor Mama doctor.My son you have made me proud.

Not like your elder brother who is always causing problems around the village.” Ogwuche embraced his mother, irrespective of the old water that had passed under the bridge, he still loved her.

“Where is my father? ” Ogwuche asked his mother, Dooshima was standing beside him, his sisters were talking to her, admiring her long black hair, admiring her skin.

“Where else would he be? He’s at Mgebe’s shop, playing draft, I’ve sent your younger brother to go and call him. ” She said as she offered Dooshima a sit.

“Fine girl what’s your name? ” she asked Dooshima.

“My name is Lilliann. ” Dooshima said Ene was so pleased at her son’s choice of woman. She only quarreled at her son for taking the steps o. his father , of which Ogwuche promised his mother not to take the road his father had gone.
